With this project, I deeply wanted to illustrate the everyday issue of deforestation through a story by bringing to life a forest spirit who looks after the forest of the world (taking on both the body of a tree and a horse to fully portray its elegance). The piece captures the moment when the spirit encounters the horrifying sight of what human touch has done to his home, breaking his heart. By humans chopping down trees (as they continue to do in reality), the forest spirit has nothing left to do but mourn the death of the world’s biome into a wasteland. My inspiration for this piece came from how many of our forests are abundantly being cut down for the sake of humanity while forgetting the creatures that live there.
